{"id":2112,"date":"2019-07-30T17:25:45","date_gmt":"2019-07-30T15:25:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.fontecesia.it\/?p=2112"},"modified":"2019-07-30T17:25:45","modified_gmt":"2019-07-30T15:25:45","slug":"the-tiber-river-park","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fontecesia.it\/en\/travel-itineraries-umbria\/the-tiber-river-park\/","title":{"rendered":"The Tiber River Park: nature and archaeological sites"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Located in <strong>Umbria<\/strong>, extending along the territories of both provinces (Perugia and Terni), is the <strong>Tiber River Park<\/strong>: 7,295 hectares along approximately 50 kilometres of river.<\/p>\n<p>This is a protected area, as established in 1990, managed by the WWF.<\/p>\n<p>It crosses seven municipalities:\u00a0Alviano, Baschi, Guardea, Monte Castello di Vibio, Montecchio, Orvieto, Todi.<\/p>\n<p>The park is known for its rich naturalistic aspect, as well as its historical and archaeological significance.<\/p>\n<h2>From Todi to Alviano: the area of the Tiber River Park<\/h2>\n<p>The Tiber River Park can be visited through various routes: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.umbriatourism.it\/en_US\/-\/parco-fluviale-del-teve-1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">at this link <\/a>,the website for the regional government illustrates the main paths and allows you to download helpful maps and indications for anyone wishing to visit.<\/p>\n<p>To visit the Tiber River Park and appreciate its main distinguishing points of interest, you can also start from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fontecesia.it\/en\/travel-itineraries-umbria\/discover-todi-in-a-day\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Todi, with an unmissable exploration of its historical centre as well as the rest of the area<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>From there you reach the Tiber River from\u00a0<strong>Montemolino<\/strong>, where the water flows rapidly, and then on to\u00a0<strong>Tevermorto<\/strong>, where, as the names suggests (translated into English the name is &#8216;Dead Tiber&#8217;), the river flows much slower.<\/p>\n<p>You then cross\u00a0<strong>Pontecuti<\/strong>\u00a0and finally arrive at the\u00a0Gola del Forello, a canyon created in the limestone by the river, which is essentially the heart of the park. Further ahead you get to\u00a0<strong>Corbara Lake<\/strong>\u00a0with a landscape you simply must see. Further on you reach\u00a0<strong>Baschi<\/strong>\u00a0offering its ancient and typical historical centre which undoubtedly deserves a visit.<\/p>\n<p>Another nearby hamlet in the Tiber River Park that one absolutely must visit is\u00a0<strong>Alviano<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>This city offers the possibility of visiting its\u00a0natural oases, which are particularly interesting for the great variety of fauna they host.<\/p>\n<h2>Fauna and flora<\/h2>\n<p>The flora of the Park is distinguished in particular by the great number of oaks, holly oak, white willow and poplar trees.<\/p>\n<p>As for the interesting range of fauna,\u00a0there are ospreys, swans,\u00a0great egrets, grey herons, cormorants, buzzards and mallards.
