The\u00a0Great Crossing of the Tiber<\/strong>\u00a0is one of these itineraries, designed to discover the Parco Fluviale del Tevere (The Tiber River Park<\/strong>), between Todi, Orvieto and the lakes of Corbara and Alviano.<\/p>\n

Umbria hosts a great number of\u00a0vast protected areas\u00a0where you can enjoy nature and amazing landscapes and also practice all types of activities.<\/p>\n

Routes have been mapped out for each park to visit them through wonderful excursions.<\/p>\n

The Great Crossing of the Tiber (the \u2018GTT\u2019 in Italian) was divided into seven routes<\/strong>\u00a0that can be done on foot, but also on bike and on horse.<\/p>\n

The roads and paths are in fact easy to negotiate and allow visitors to see the entire park from south to north, discovering the main highlights of historical, archaeological and naturalistic interest.<\/p>\n

Route 1 \u2013 Alviano, Guardea, Tenaglie<\/h2>\n

10 kilometres that take 4 hours to walk at difficulty level E \u2013 Excursionist.<\/strong><\/p>\n

These are the technical characteristics of the first stretch of the GTT which begins at the church of Alviano and continues north, towards Guardea, the centre of which is reached by taking dirt country roads. You pass through Poggio Vecchio which offers an enchanting view of lake Alviano and continues north yet again to reach the centre of Tenaglie.<\/p>\n

Route 2 \u2013 Tenaglie, the Necropolis of San Lorenzo, Baschi<\/h2>\n

13 kilometres that take 5 and a half hours to walk at difficulty level E \u2013 Excursionist. <\/strong><\/p>\n

This second stretch takes you out of Tenaglie and towards Montecchio, crossing through the town and then heading west to the Archaeological Area of the \u201cNecropolis of the Vallone of Saint Lorenzo\u201d to admire a series of chamber tombs dating back to the 7th century B.C. You will then turn back a bit to take the road to Baschi.<\/p>\n

Route 3 \u2013 Baschi, Civitella del Lago<\/h2>\n

11.8 kilometres that take 4 and a half hours to walk at difficulty level E \u2013 Excursionist.<\/strong><\/p>\n

So you leave from Baschi, near the cemetery, and you turn left. You will walk down deep dip and up a climb, and then redescend to Lake Corbara and Fosso delle Corone. You will continue for 3 more kilometres inland until you get to the intersection at Case Vecchie: from here you will take the paved road to Civitella del Lago.<\/p>\n

Route 4 \u2013 Civitella del Lago \u2013 Asproli<\/h2>\n

12 kilometres that take 5 hours to walk at difficulty level E \u2013 Excursionist.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This is the fourth stretch of the Great Crossing of the Tiber. Walking along country lanes, water channels and dirt paths, you get to the valley of Fosso dell\u2019Elce Barile. Here you will find another dirt path. Yet one more water channel and two intersections before you reach Morruzze. At the four-way fork in the road you go north to Acqualoreto.<\/p>\n

Route 5 \u2013 Asproli, Todi<\/h2>\n

9 kilometres that take 3 hours and 50 minutes to walk at difficulty level E \u2013 Excursionist.<\/strong><\/p>\n

You get to Porchiano from a country lane, and when you are past the town, you continue right towards the Naia stream, walking along it for approximately one and a half kilometres before you start climbing the hill of\u00a0Todi, a gem of architecture with a landscape all to discover.<\/p>\n

Route 6 \u2013 Todi, Doglio<\/h2>\n

12 kilometres that take 5 hours to walk at difficulty level E \u2013 Excursionist<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

From Todi and especially the Convent of Montesanto you begin the descent, along a road of switchbacks and landscape, to the Pontecuti bridge.<\/p>\n

Right in front of you there will be an uphill climb and then more bends and yet more scenery. You first arrive in Santa Maria Monte, then Poggio Lipparoni and lastly Doglio.<\/p>\n

Route 7 \u2013 Doglio, Monte Castello di Vibio<\/h2>\n

6 kilometres that take 2 hours to walk at difficulty level E \u2013 Excursionist.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In the seventh and last stretch of approximately 6 kilometres that separate the hamlet of Doglio from the historical centre of Monte Castello di Vibio, an adorable village famous for being home to the Teatro della Concordia (the Concordia Theatre), believed to be the smallest in the world.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
